In this joint response to the Legal Aid Means Test Review consultation by Anti-Trafficking and Labour Exploitation Unit (ATLEU), FLEX, Hope for Justice, Simpson Millar, and Survivor Collective, we call for survivors of trafficking and modern slavery to be entitled to non means tested legal aid. Our response is informed by experience of the challenges faced by survivors of trafficking and modern slavery in accessing legal aid. Without access to legal advice, survivors are left at risk of destitution, homelessness, removal, and vulnerable to further exploitation and re-trafficking.
